about
Hamish MacCallum began training in fine art and theatre design in London before moving back to Melbourne in 1996 to train in horticulture and Permaculture. In 1997 Hamish designed and developed Meridian Herb Farm under permaculture principles, living and working there for eight years, with a small break in 2000 to live and work with David Holmgren (co-originator of the permaculture concept).
Hamish has designed and been involved in the design of over 90 properties in Victoria, covering a wide range of design from water management and effluent treatment, tree crops, pasture management, house site and dam design through to kitchen gardens, native landscapes, fire resistant landscapes, wetland construction and shelterbelts, blending multi-functioning, integrated design with aesthetic, beautiful landscaping. Hamish works almost entirely with re-cycled and locally sourced materials.
Previous projects also include designing several school grounds, including a design for the Stephanie Alexander foundation school kitchen garden scheme, among many others.
Hamish teaches permaculture and is an accredited trainer and assessor. He works from home on his property on the Fryers Forest Eco-village near Castlemaine.
